Pet Policy

At Tairua Campground, we understand that pets are often considered part of the family, and we welcome them to our campground, all year round. To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all our guests, we have established the following pet policy:

  1. Pet Registration:
    • All guests bringing pets must register them at the time of check-in. A maximum of two pets per campsite is allowed.
    • Please ensure your pet's vaccinations are up to date at the time of registration.
  2. Pet Guidelines:
    • Pets must be kept on a leash at all times while on campground premises.
    • Pet owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. Rubbish bins are available throughout the campground.
    • Pets should not be left unattended at the campsite or in vehicles.
    • Excessive barking or aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated. Owners may be asked to remove their pets if such behaviour persists.
  3. Pet Restrictions:
    • Aggressive dog breeds are not permitted on the campground premises.
    • Pets are not allowed in: -
      • Cabins or Family Room
      • Common indoor areas such as bathrooms, games room, kitchen, and laundry.
  4. Pet Safety:
    • In case of an emergency, pet owners should have a plan for the care of their pets. The veterinarian in Coromandel is CoroVets and their phone number is 0800 267 683.
    • Please ensure that your pet is wearing proper identification at all times.
  5. Liability:
    • Pet owners are solely responsible for any damage or injury caused by their pets. Tairua Campground will not be held liable for any incidents involving pets on the premises.

Dog rules and restrictions in the Coromandel over summer

You can find the Thames-Coromandel District Council's general rules on dogs here: Our Dog Rules | TCDC. In Tairua during peak summer periods, dogs are restricted from 9AM-6PM on our estuary and surf beach with the exception of the stunning Sailors Grave beach, which is an off-leash dog-friendly paradise all year round and only 10 minutes' drive away.
